As the centralized resource for child abuse victims and their caregivers, our multidisciplinary approach is culturally and developmentally sensitive to each child and family, and helps address the overwhelming maze of services and court processes. Exploited and Missing Children’s Unit (EMCU)
Investigators from the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office and the Wichita Police Department operate as a team with social workers from the Kansas Department For Children and Families to investigate reported child abuse and neglect, missing and abducted children, human trafficking, online exploitation and internet crimes against children cases in Sedgwick County. This specialized unit assists all law enforcement agencies in Sedgwick County and throughout the state of Kansas.
Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC)
Nationally, 61 coordinated task forces representing more than 4,500 federal, state, and local agencies, engage in investigations of persons involved in exploitation or other crimes against children online. The ICAC Unit also trains law enforcement officers and prosecutors, as well as educating parents and youth about internet safety.
Legal and medical expertise are vital to complete the multidisciplinary team. Our local partners include the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s office, Ascension Via Christi, KU Pediatrics and Wesley Medical Center.
ICT.SOS is a Wichita based nonprofit that connects organizations who work directly with victims of human trafficking to community resources. Through this link, our community has an outlet to donate items, raise awareness, and educate our children about safety.
