Medical Evaluations

Ensuring the safety and well-being of all children involved in child abuse and neglect investigations is a priority of the CACSC and our partner agencies. If there is a concern for physical abuse, children often receive initial medical examinations at a local hospital or clinic. Sexual abuse evaluations include forensic examinations that are provided by specially trained nurses onsite at the CACSC, Wesley Medical Center’s Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner/Sexual Assault Response Team program, or at Via Christi’s Forensic Nursing program.

The CACSC team also includes a pediatrician who is board certified in Child Abuse Pediatrics and provides expertise through case consultation, direct patient care and case review. The forensic nurses and the child abuse pediatrician help investigators determine when and where examinations should be scheduled to best address each child’s needs.
